Sólbjörg Björnsdóttir, Yorgos Pavlakos, Tamara Weessies and Anneke Hoekman are the four enthusiastic musicians that perform the music of ensemble Oriana. We regularly work together with other dutch and international musicians. On this page, you can find information about the members of the ensemble.
Yorgos Pavlakos

Yorgos Pavlakos was born in Athens, Greece, on July 14th 1978. When he was 8 years old he started recorder lessons and after 4 years he switched to the guitar. Yorgos took lessons from Stellios Bratos. After 6 years of guitar lessons, he decided to return to the recorder and took lessons from Manos Avarakis. In 1999 Yorgos worked together with the director Thanos Mihalas as composer and performer in theatrical plays. Ever since, he performed as a recorder player and percussion player.
In 2004 Yorgos decided to come to Holland and started his recorder studies with Heiko ter Schegget in the Utrecht Conservatorium. In July 2009 he graduated as Bachelor of Music. During and after his studies, he followed lessons and master classes with Conrad Steinmann, Bert Honig and Marion Verbruggen.Yorgos was one of the founders of ensemble Oriana.
Anneke Hoekman

Anneke Hoekman was born on April 4th 1984 in Friesland, a province in the north of Holland. When Anneke was 11 years old, she started playing the recorder and took lessons with Dinie Goedhart. In 2002 she won a special price for performing Modern Music in the Dutch Prinses Christina Concours. One year later, she was awarded a "eervolle vermelding" on the national competition of Stichting Jong Muziektalent.
After graduating from high school, Anneke decided to study recorder at the Utrecht Conservatory. She had lessons with Heiko ter Schegget. In 2009 she graduated as "Bachelor of Music" and in 2011 Anneke graduated as “Master of Music.” She specialized in ensemble playing and started playing the baroque bassoon. Anneke was having recorder lessons with both Heiko ter Schegget and Daniël Brüggen and took lessons and master classes with Karel van Steenhoven, Conrad Steinmann, Bert Honig and Marion Verbruggen.
Besides studying and playing with ensemble Oriana, Anneke is performing a solo-program. She also works as a teacher for recorder and "AMV" in Amersfoort, Foudgum and Ee. Anneke is one of the founders of ensemble Oriana.
Solbjörg Björnsdótter

Sólbjörg Björnsdóttir was born in Paris, France in 1983 and lived there until she was three years old. She then moved with her parents to Iceland where she studied languages and music, sang, did gymnastics and worked as a barista until she came to the Netherlands in 2008 and really started focusing on singing.
Sólbjörg started singing before she started speaking and she has performed at concerts all over Iceland with choirs, ensembles, organists and pianists. She has also performed with choirs in Scotland and in France. She grew up in an artistic family. Her parents are both artist. Her father is an organist and her mother is both a ceramist and sculptor and she traveled with them e.g. to France, Denmark, Germany and England for many concerts and various art courses.
Sólbjörg likes all kinds of music and has performed with the Sinfonia Nord as well as with a couple of pop-groups, ensembles, organists, pianists and church choirs. She also loves cooking and making coffee. In 2011 Sól graduated from the mastercourse in Art Management.
Tamara Weessies

Tamara Weessies was born on December 2nd, 1981. When Tamara was 8 years old, her interest in music started. Soon after that, recorder lessons followed. Before Tamara went to conservatory, she had lessons with Elly Admiraal and Heleen Gerretsen. Tamara studied recorder in Amsterdam and den Haag, where she had lessons with Saskia Coolen, Paul Leenhouts en Dorothea Winter. After graduation, Tamara took lessons with Bert Honig, Marjolijn van Roon, Daniël Brüggen, Joris van Goethem, Bart Spanhove and Erik Bosgraaf.
Untill 2009, Tamara was an active member of recorder ensemble "Red Rose Four," with whom she gave concerts in Holland and abroad.
Tamara is also working as a teacher and a composer. She followed her composition lessons with Daan Manneke.
